Day 37, 38, 39

So someone asked me yesterday how my blog was going... ummmm.... or not going. This year has been a year of me doing things differently and I refuse to give up on this. Few and far between my posts might be these days, but I'm still trying.

So I only have three outfits to post, but I do have a few things to discuss.

1. Nastygal.com - My roommate, Aly, turned me on to it. Great clothes, amazing shoes. We love this.
2. Neon. I bought a skin tight, spandex, neon yellow skirt. I have yet to wear it, but it's pretty fantastic. Neon isn't anything new, but it's not going anywhere.

In other news, I have forgotten how to smile. See below :(

Above: Brown Aldo oxfords, black tights, BDG jeans that I cut into shorts, BDG mens flannel, white.
Above: Brown Aldo oxfords, green American Apparel Skinny Fit jeans, vintage cropped sweater,

Day 34 and 35

I know, I know, I know... I've been slacking on my posts lately. Ok, that is an understatement, but in my defense I just started a new job and the only thing I've been wearing is work clothes. And trust me when I say they aren't worth posting.

It's starting to warm up out there and I've been scouring the streets/style blogs for what is going to be in this spring. I'm personally looking forward to pulling out my floral prints, knee socks, ankle boots and cut off shorts. I've been feeling very vintage, and I'm greatly inspired by browsing ETSY. It's quickly becoming my favorite website.

Anyways, here are two recent outfits:

Above: Brown leather Aldo oxfords, 7 for all Mankind boyfriend jeans, gray wife beater, Leopard print cardigan from Banana Republic, leather bracelets, BDG beanie, Clubmaster Ray Bans

Below: Aldo oxfords, Forever 21 tights, black pleaded skirt, mens oxford shirt from GAP, gray Banana Republic cardigan, vintage woven leather belt

Day 32 and 33

When I find a look I like, I tend to run with it for a few days... maybe longer. You noticed, I'm sure, that for a few weeks I was wearing my hair in braids every single day. That's a perfect example. Or I will wear the same pair of shoes for a week straight... when I'm stuck on something I like to build my outfits around it and use it as an a jumping off point. This week I've been stuck on this kind of grungy/rocker/biker feel.

Above: Mod boots, black tights, mens BDG striped shirt, white wife beater, Urban Renewal biker jacket, lots of necklaces.

Below: Mod boots, black tights, black spandex shorts, pink American Apparel high wasted corduroy shorts, white wife beater, mens v-neck BDG t-shirt, Urban Renewal biker jacket, necklaces.

After almost a week off from posting, I'm back with 3 different outfits. I'm wearing, in 2 of the pics, what is probably my favorite piece I own... my DKNY grandpa cardigan that I wear with EVERYTHING.

Day 30

Color. Color is something I used to shy away from. I definitely went through a phase wear I couldn't wear enough black. But today I love to wear color. In my closet you see mostly neutral colors, grays, blacks, browns, ect... but throwing a punch of color in can really change your outfit into something else. American Apparel is a a great place to get basic pieces you can mix and match and pair with tons of things.

Woven leather sandals, American Apparel shiny nylon leggings in Serpent, Bluebird oversized sweater, American Apparel headband.

Day 29

These two outfits are a true testament to how you don't have to peg yourself with just one style. Don't be afraid to wear things that might be out of your comfort zone. People are always saying to me "You can totally get away with that, but I could never wear it" and what I say in response is that you can wear anything you want. Just wear it. Just own it. As I'm always saying, don't put too much thought into it. Style is about having confidence in what you're wearing.

Up top: brown Aldo oxfords, black tights, Kimichi Blue floral print dress, vintage brown leather belt, gray Silence and Noise blazer.

Day 28

Over the weekend I lost my wallet. I know, huge inconvenience... having to replace all those cards and the canceling of bank accounts... it's a nightmare! But one good thing did come out of it: I got to buy a new wallet! I welcome any chance to spend money on something when I can justify actually NEEDING it and not just wanting it. My old wallet was actually a vintage red alligator skin glasses case that I just stuffed everything into and used as a wallet. It was amazing and I'm very sad it's gone. So in order to replace this gem I knew I needed to look in consignment shops around town. I looked in a few places and just couldn't get attached to anything. I really wanted a beat up old leather wallet. I finally found one in an antique store! I know this story has absolutely no relevance to my outfit today, but the lesson here should be that antique stores are a great place to shop for vintage wallets and purses. I hope you enjoyed that little story...

Brown Aldo oxfords, Sparkle and Fade gray tights, Kimichi Blue floral print skort, white wife beater from Forever 21, BDG striped shirt, vintage cross necklace.

Another two-for! This was from one day over the weekend and I forgot that I even took it. I know I posted a pic of this sweater the other day... but I love it! Hey... I said I never wear the same outfit twice, I said NOTHING about individual items.

Mod boots, stone washed jeans by Bullhead, BDG striped mens sweater.

Day 27

Big sweaters! I absolutely love oversized sweaters. I love wearing oversized things in general... and with that being said, let me share a secret: I wear men's clothes. I love them. I'm a huge sucker for comfort, and guys clearly win in that department. The best place to snag some great oversized men's sweaters, flannels, t-shirts ect., in my opinion, is the sale section of Urban Outfitters. I popped in yesterday and found the sweater you see here and a cardigan, both on sale. I also always rummage through the men's sections of vintage/second hand stores. There are always great finds...

Mens BDG striped sweater, Silence and Noise high-wasted stretch denim mini, gray Sparkle and Fade sparkly tights, white socks, brown Aldo oxfords, Clubmaster Ray Ban shades.

Day 26

My favorite thing to do these days is mix patterns and textures. Not everything works, but I find that it's really an anything goes kind of deal. I was explaining to someone the other day that I don't really put too much thought into what I'm going to wear. I kind of just throw things on and go with it... conceptually it's a very spontaneous process for me. Matchy matchy is definitely NOT me. I've done some shopping recently, so get ready to see some new pieces!

Aldo brown oxfords, Forever 21 tights, Urban Renewal tribal print skirt, vintage black sweater w/ gold flecks.

Oh, and hot pink lipstick is my newest look for spring. This particular shade is Revlon.

Day 25

I'm a big fan of wearing big shirts over dresses, as you can see if you look back on some of my other outfits. I found this dress at a consignment store, Crossroads Trading Co. It was one of those pieces that, on the hanger, looks pretty hideous... but I saw potential. For me, fashion is about seeing beyond the individual piece, it's seeing an outfit as a whole, as a work of art.

Vintage mod boots, black tights, LAUNDRY by Shelli Segal, oversized Bluebird sweater, vintage brown leather belt, Clubmaster Ray Ban shades.

Big ups to my photographer, and fellow fashionista, Polly Wolly.

Day 24

My look today was inspired by the classic style of Audrey Hepburn. Much like Jackie O., Audrey was a trendsetting beauty whose look has transcended fashion. She is truly an icon.

Wearing black London ballet slippers, Forever 21 black denim skinny jeans, black Gap turtle neck, vintage silk blouse, flat gold earrings.

Day 22 and 23

My Ugg boots are making an appearance for the first time in this picture. Let me speak on Uggs for a brief minute. Uggs are extremely comfortable and, for all intents and purposes, very practical when you live in a city and walking is your primary method of transportation and it's 40 degrees outside. While I will be the very first to judge anyone who would wear them with a short skirt, I do condone them with leggings and sweaters. I realize they aren't exactly fashion forward but sometimes, only sometimes, function precedes form.

Classic tall Uggs in chestnut brown, Sparkle and Fade over-the-knee socks, black tights, white wife beater from Forever 21, Victoria's Secret over-sized white t-shirt, BDG tribal print zip-up sweater, fingerless 'homeless' gloves, Falling Whistles necklace, vintage cross necklace, scowl.

Basically I was lazy this weekend, so here you have it... a two-for! You're welcome. Mod boots, black tights, Kimichi Blue floral print skort, vintage sweater, plaid scarf.

Day 21

After seeing Black Swan last weekend I've been inspired by the 'dancer' look recently. Layers, tights and socks!

Wearing woven leather sandals, black tights, black open-toed ballet socks from Forever 21, orange American Apparel spandex shorts, white wife beater, white Victoria's Secret over-sized t-shirt, gray DKNY grandpa cardigan, black American Apparel headband, Falling Whistles necklace.

In other news, I have a new favorite website. One of my roommates told me about it a few weeks ago and I completely forgot about it until today when I was in Yogurtland and saw a girl wearing an amazing pair of vintage flats. I asked her, as I always do when I see something I wish was mine, where she got them. Her reply: etsy.com. This website is fantastic. It's a place to buy and sell handmade, homemade and vintage items... including but not limited to clothing, accessories, art, home furnishings... pretty much anything. Love it.

Day 20

On any given day I've been known to go through up to three different wardrobe changes (this does not include any amazing variation of sweatpants/pajama combinations I wear around the house) and I can say with confidence that I have not worn the same outfit twice. Ever. If you were to take every single item of clothing I own and use an advanced algorithm to figure out how many different outfits could be made, well... I'm not that mathematically savvy, but I'd venture to say its a lot. And they're just aren't enough days in the month to exhaust them all. Enter wardrobe changes. This was outfit number 1 of the day. I liked outfit 2 better, but I didn't get a picture of it. I know, I know.. why even bother mentioning it then.

In this photo: Crown Vintage victorian lace-up boots, black leggings, Forever 21 striped shirt, BDG flannel, vintage pea coat with faux fur collar, plaid scarf, Falling Whistles whistle necklace.

If you do anything today, please check out the link to Falling Whistles, a cause promoting peace in Congo. The promo video alone is worth stopping by, and they've got some pretty sweet swag.

2011, a style odyssey

As every new year begins, I have hopes that big things will come to pass for me. I have aspirations that this blog will become something amazing, that my style will continue to move in a direction I feel expresses who I am... yet none of these things seem attainable, at least through the critical lenses of my own eyes.

I agonize over my look sometimes. I see other women dressed up on the streets and I think to myself "I want to look more like that." Sometimes it's that I wish to dress more feminine. Sometimes edgier, sometimes classier. Yet I always fall back into the comfort of the look that is mine, and much like everything else about me, I'm not really sure what that is. And isn't that so fitting for me? Changing on a daily basis, unsure of what it is, unsure if I like it, unsure where it's going. And in that case, my style EXACTLY represents me. Restless. Discontented. Unsatisfied. And so begins another year of trying to find peace of mind, trying to chase who I am. Evolving. Changing. Growing. And I expect my style to follow suit. Stick around. I can guarantee there will be many outfits that will inspire you (and me) to wonder "What the hell is she wearing?"

In this photo: Crown Vintage victorian lace-up boots, hunter green high-wasted Slim Fit American Apparel jeans, vintage black sweater w/ gold flecks from Swellegant, vintage pea-coat with faux fur collar.

(Shout out to my photographer/roommate, B.B.)
