Day... One, two, skip a few

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you all had a fantastic holiday that was marked by the ever-present themes of food, family, fun and mild frustration. I took a slight break from blogging to really get into the holiday this year (and because I didn't bring my laptop with me to my Mom's house). I'm back for a brief update and then will disappear back into the holiday abyss until after the New Year.

While I was rooting through my Mom's closet, as I have a tendency to do whenever I'm home, I found a bunch of old cable-knit sweaters that were knit by an array of women in my family over the years. The one I'm wearing above was knit by my Great Aunt Mildred (I couldn't make that up if I tried) for my Mom when she was in middle school. That sweater is about 50 years old and I adore it. I paired it with Theory gray suede booties, black scrunch ballet socks, black tights, and a Silence and Noise high waisted stretch denim mini for Christmas Eve.

Best Christmas Gift: Ray Ban Clubmaster Shades.... Thanks Santa!

Day 18

First off, I want to call myself out on not posting anything yesterday... a true testament to my non-committal nature. I'm working on it, ok! So this outfit is kind of a misfit... I was feeling very 80s today, Sixteen Candles was on. MIA woven leather shoes (that are badly beaten up and are in desperate need of a cobbler), BDG leopard print leggings, Forever 21 wife beater, gray James Perse t-shirt, Urban Renewal Grandpa sweater. I have to say that this sweater is pretty amazing. When I first saw it at Urban Outfitters I knew I needed it. Yes, needed. Although the same in style, no two sweaters had the same pattern. I found them for sale still on Urban's website, but they appear to only have 2 patterns left.

Day 17

So today I regret to inform you there will be no outfit photo, as I am on vacation... but I did want to post something. I am leaving a link to a great article I enjoyed on nymag.com, which is New York magazine's online component. I love this magazine. It is all things NY, and always has great style articles. This particular article centers on who will be the next Lady Gaga, in terms of zany fashion... front runners being Nicki Minaj and Ke$ha. The always controversial, self-proclaimed Glam girl, Lady Gaga, is well known for her outrageous, cutting edge and often bordering on insane fashion statements. Now who's going to fill her Alexander McQueen armadillo shoes? Here's the link, which includes a great slideshow:

Day 16

Mod boots, Forever 21 maroon tights,Lush navy and white striped dress, and vintage silk blouse that was another find in my Grams closet. I must share here that I am a total sucker for navy and white stripes. It's always in a style, and always looks clean.

I know that braids have been back in for a while now, in terms of hair styles, but I've been wearing my hair in pigtail french braids a lot lately, and received tons of compliments. It's impossible to do myself, I can't take credit for this... my wonderful roommates do it.

Day 15

Love love love colored tights these days. Forever 21 has a ton of them right now for pretty cheap, as well as Urban Outfitters if you want to pay a bit more. Wearing vintage mod boots, Forever 21 tights, BDG denim mini, Silence and Noise striped shirt.

Day 14

No mirror shot today... although this picture doesn't show my entire outfit, it is prettier to look at. Wearing my mod boots, the same Sparkle and Fade lace tights I had on yesterday, Forever 21 pleaded black skirt, GAP mens pin-striped linen shirt, Banana Republic gray cardigan, vintage woven leather belt.

Following suit with yesterday, I wanted to show a few pictures of a girl whose style was ahead of her time and who became an icon for a generation... Edie Sedgwick. She was one of Andy Warhol's famous muses at the height of his Factory era. Edie is well known for living fast and dying young.. but she contributed something special to the world of fashion... her signature look was black tights, something I cannot live without. Edie was charismatic, beautiful and quite the enigma. Take a look.

Day 13

I'm obsessed with this outfit. Some days I just get a vision of what I want to wear and I throw it together and it looks as awesome as I had envisioned.. not always the case. Some days, like yesterday, I struggle. Jessica Simpson Boots, Sparkle and Fade lace tights, Kimichi Blue floral print skort, Kimichi Blue ruffle blouse, vintage woven leather belt.

I'm trying something new today... I think inspiration and admiration is a huge part of what goes into my personal style. There are so many different kinds of styles I admire and that inspire me, from iconic celebrities to random kids I see on the streets. Kanye West, although questionable in character, has amazing style and is often a trailblazer for trends. I have embedded his latest video below, which is not only (in my opinion) a visual masterpiece, but is a great example of his impeccable taste. If you do anything today, watch this.

Day 12

Had one of those irritating mornings where I wasn't inspired by anything I own, and nothing seemed to look right. Settled on my favorite boyfriend slouch 7 For All Mankind jeans, brown leather belt, faded gray BDG sweater, cream wool beanie and my favorite zipper Keds. The medallions on the necklace (Urban Outfitters) are all old NY coins... it's pretty fantastic, but they jangle around a lot when I walk which is mildly annoying.

Day 11

Wow, I really look like I'm in a good mood here. I guess I need to incorporate smiling into my life... Wearing vintage mod-boots, black leggings, gray deep-v-neck BDG mens shirt, BDG tribal print zip up sweater w/ shawl collar, plaid linen scarf, and brown leather belt. My bag, shown here for the first time, is the purse I'm currently using for the everyday. It's pretty much amazing. It can be worn long, either how I have it here or messenger style, or short. And it's what I call a Mary Poppins bag, as in it holds just about anything. It was a christmas gift from my mom last year and its from Urban Outfitters.

Day 10

I acquired these boots from my favorite vintage store, Swellegant, in Newport Beach, CA. They're well worn and that's the way they came to me. People have stopped me on the streets to comment on them... they're straight from the '60s, John Lennon style, and I absolutely adore them.

Vintage mod boots, black tights, Urban Renewal baby doll dress, Urban Renewal grandpa sweater, vintage woven leather belt. As you can tell, my photography method is lacking in sophistication. If, and when, I can locate a roommate to take the pic, I will do so.

Day...ahh who's counting...

After months of neglecting my fashion journal, I've decided to come out of hiding. I see fashion as an art form. Some paint, some take pictures, some write. I dress. I can't say that I stand out in any real way, or that I am exceptional from my peers. Just that it's a passion, it's an outlet, it's my greatest love.

Dressed in vintage 60's mod-style boots (that are my absolute favorite and I wear with almost everything), black tights, a mens generic flannel shirt and a Vintage Peacoat with a faux fur trim (you're welcome, PETA). The cross necklace, which I wear constantly, was my grandmothers.

Day 8

I must confess I threw this dress on just to take the picture (explains the hair).. but I did wear it out later that day. Aldo platform black pumps, Kimichi Blue silk dress, mop of hair.

Friday, July 16, 2010

Day 7

Vintage woven metallic spiked-heel clogs that I purchased from Buffalo Exchange, Forever 21 shirt-dress, vintage waistbelt. The gold necklace was my Grams.

Thursday, July 15, 2010

Day 6

The leather bracelets I have on (that you will see in almost every pic) I wear daily. They are all wrap around leather bands. Two of which I got at Urban Outfitters, the other I purchased on one of my trips to Italy, in Siena I believe, from some random street vendor. Forever 21 platform Mary Jane booties, Kimichi Blue skort, vintage woven blouse.

Wednesday, July 14, 2010

Day 5

vintage woven leather Jesus-sandals, Levi's cutoff jean shorts, vintage blouse, leopard-print head scarf.

Tuesday, July 13, 2010

Day 4

Kimichi Blue ruffled blouse, stretch-denim high-waisted mini, woven metallic vintage spiked-heel clogs.

Monday, July 12, 2010

Day 3

Wearing vintage woven brown leather flats (which, I am sad to report, are falling apart at the seams... literally), vintage Hawaiian print sundress, gray Silence and Noise blazer and a brown waistbelt (another piece from my Grandmothers closet). I think I might add here that when my Gram passed away I was lucky enough to raid her closet and take what I wanted. She was always beautifully put together and very fashion-foward. The items of hers that I've acquired have added so much to my wardrobe, many of which are now some of my favorite pieces. I love you, Gram.

Day 2

Wearing Brown Seychelles pumps, black tights, Silence and Noise stretch-denim mini, vintage black silk blouse (another piece from my Grandmothers closet), and a vintage brown leather crochet belt.

Day 1

Welcome to my fashion journal, 365 days of what I'm wearing. I have the over/under on how many days I actually keep this up set at 10...

Wearing gray suede Theory booties, black jeans, a mens BDG cotton shirt, and a gray Silence and Noise blazer.
